The environment is a modest Egyptian village near the river: mud-brick houses, fields of wheat and flax, irrigation channels, palm trees, and a few donkeys and cattle moving through the area.
The recording follows him as he starts the day working in the fields with a wooden plow pulled by two oxen, guiding the animals along the irrigation channels. He then moves to one of the channels to clear mud and debris with a wooden tool. Later he walks toward the river carrying a large basket and joins other men loading harvested crops onto a small wooden boat. On his way back to the village he stops to help repair a section of an irrigation channel using mud bricks. He finishes near his house, sitting on the ground while sharpening a wooden tool with a stone.
